I received a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Houston and, after spending some time developing security software for BindView, headed to Dartmouth to pursue a Ph.D. There, I worked under Professor Sean Smith at Dartmouth's Institute for Security Technology Studies designing, building, and breaking systems.

I received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Dartmouth in 2005 and returned to BindView (acquired by Symantec), this time working in the security research group. In 2007, I left Symantec to work as a developer and Principal Security Architect for EminentWare (acquired by SolarWinds). Since then, I've done contract work for energy trading companies and have recently taken a technical lead role at AlertLogic.

I've built numerous software systems, working at the systems level up through the presentation layer. I've conducted penetration tests and worked closely with architects and developers to design and build secure systems. Finally, I've taught courses in computer security and consulted with various organizations to build custom software, lock down their environments, secure their products, and resolve their security incidents.
