John Marchesini, Ph.D.

Bio

I received a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Houston and, after spending some time developing security software for BindView, headed to Dartmouth to pursue a Ph.D. There, I worked under Professor Sean Smith at Dartmouth's Institute for Security Technology Studies designing, building, and breaking systems.

I received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Dartmouth in 2005 and returned to BindView, this time working in BindView's RAZOR security research group. BindView was acquired by Symantec and I became a member of Symantec's Product Security Group. In 2007, I left Symantec and became the first employee at EminentWare, where I currently serve as the Principal Security Architect.

I've built numerous software systems, working at the system level up through the application layer. I've also conducted penetration tests and worked closely with architects and developers to design and build secure systems. Finally, I've taught courses in computer security and consulted with various organizations to lock down their environments, secure their products, and resolve their security incidents.
